Why use the formula bar

The formula bar is useful for long formulas or text that is difficult to edit inside a narrow cell.

Active cell binding

The bar follows the currently focused cell. Move selection to inspect a different cell's raw input rather than only its displayed result.

Start with =, use A1 references and supported function names. Formula suggestions are available while typing supported functions.
